Join the Academy
There are three categories of membership, each with different qualifications.
Full Member - Open to persons who (i) provide evidence of scientific training beyond the undergraduate level; and (ii) have at least 10 refereed, data-based papers (quantitative or qualitative) published in national or international journals that regularly report the findings of original health behavior, health education, or health promotion research. Manuscripts "in press" or "accepted" are not considered; only published manuscripts are reviewed.
Affiliate Member - Open to new professionals and doctoral students currently enrolled in a college or university who display potential for success as a researcher. The intent of the Affiliate membership is to provide beginning researchers an opportunity to become involved with The Academy as he or she works toward fulfilling the requirements for membership as a Full Member.
Applicants must (i) hold or be working toward a doctoral degree, (ii) demonstrate evidence of scientific training beyond the undergraduate level, and (iii) have at least two refereed data-based papers (quantitative or qualitative) published in national or international journals that regularly report findings of original health behavior, health education, or health promotion research.
The Affiliate Membership is valid for five years and can only be renewed with the approval of the Membership and Development Council. Manuscripts "in press" or "accepted" are not considered; only published manuscripts are reviewed.
Student Member is a status for doctoral students interested in Health Behavior Research who wish to become involved in the Academy. Student members receive a reduced annual membership dues ($75) and annual meeting registration at 1/2 regular cost. Student members cannot hold office in the Academy. Student membership is limited to a maximum of 7 years.
Student Members are required to submit a letter from their current Department as a part of the application process. The letter should include the name of the school, department, degree, date of enrollment and signed by the Department Chair or other Faculty Member in the Department. How to Join - NEW Member Application
To become a new member of AAHB, you must complete an online application.
To complete your application, you will need to provide complete reference information about your 2 (for Affiliate) or 10 (for Full) data-based publications.
You will be contacted by email once your application has been processed and approved. Upon receipt of notification, you will have 60 days to submit your membership dues.
